The foothills of the Verdugo Mountains begin just southeast of Hansen Lake and consist primarily of small horse ranches. Students in grades K-12 attend schools of the Los Angeles Unified School District. There are also excellent private schools in the area.
Sunland is nestled between the Verdugo mountains to the south, the Angeles National Forest to the north, Sun Valley and the San Fernando Valley to the west and Tujunga and Crescenta Valley to the east. While it has a rural atmosphere with mountains all around it is only 15 minutes to Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley and only 25 minutes to downtown Los Angeles. Starter homes and condos are available and 1/2 acre and larger properties are common in Shadow Hills which is know for horse properties and homes where people in the entertainment industry live. There is a new golf course being constructed nearby and there are miles and miles of horse trails and mountain bike trails all around. What a great place to live and play.
